Rodeos, mule competitions, arts and crafts, food vendors, carnival rides, camping, antique tractors, a parade, musical concerts and dancing will fill the town of Benson, along with lots of mammals of the four-legged variety in the equidae family — horses and mules. Lee Road, opens at noon. The John Norris Band will take the stage from 6 to 7 p. Be sure to bring a chair to enjoy the free concert.

The carnival will be at a new location this year. It will be located at S. Lee St. The schedule is Thursday, Sept. Rodeos, mule competitions, arts and crafts, food vendors, dances, carnival rides, camping, parades, Bluegrass shows, and musical concerts draw nearly 30, fans over the course of four days, making Benson Mule Days one of the largest annual festivals in North Carolina.

Local bands, floats, classic cars, antique tractors, beauty queens, and hundreds of horses, mules, buggies, and wagons fill the streets of Benson with joy and laughter. From the first camper that arrives to Chamber Park on Wednesday afternoon to the last one who pulls up stakes on Sunday afternoon, a good time is had by all, perhaps none more so than the mules. Tours of the Garland McLamb Family stable are available from 9am-5pm in Downtown Benson, as well as wagon rides, which leave from the stable, from 1pm-5pm.

Carnival rides are open from 5pmpm, and enjoy sidewalk art by local students on Main Street from 3pm-6pm. The guest performers this year will be Dusty Myers and Jeff Wolf , and there will be pony rides for the little cowboys and cowgirls. After the rodeo on Friday night you can shake a leg at the Mule Days Dance. One of the biggest parades in the state of North Carolina, it lasts 2 and a half hours.

It's a can't-miss Mule Days activity! The three to four days of festivities include swine judging, hog calling, a parade, a concert, beauty contests, political speeches, a street dance, a rodeo, a fiddler's convention, and fireworks. There are also a variety of mule-judging events, including awards for racing, pulling, youngest, oldest, ugliest, and largest.

Daddy Mac Willis McLamb took great pride in Mule Days and always enjoyed seeing it grow bigger and bigger with each coming year.
